Compare ski bases in Ukraine and the Alps

Eight bases scored on the same five variables: snow depth, terrain, lifts, lodging band and access. Lodging bands use three fixed words, low, mid and high, so every row reads the same way.

Method: mid-mountain snow depth and open lifts are read from resort reports dated 12 February 2026; drive times from Kyiv measure winter-road travel. Lodging bands cover a double room per night. Low: hostel or guesthouse, basic private room, further from lifts. Mid: three-star double within a short walk of a lift. High: four-star double at the lift base or with ski-in access. Method and sources

Where the numbers come from

Every figure in the destination comparison matrix and the lodging price-band table traces to an entry below. Capture dates record when our desk last read the source, not when the operator published it.

  1. Resort snow and lift reportsCaptured 12 February

Mid-mountain snow depth of 45 to 62 cm at Bukovel, Dragobrat and Pylypets. Excludes valley-base readings, ungroomed terrain and any drag tow out of service.

  2. Lift pass tariffsCaptured 9 February

Adult weekend and six-day pass prices in UAH, taken from operator price lists. Excludes equipment rental, ski school, lockers and insurance.

  3. Lodging rate samplingCaptured 6 to 8 February

High-season Saturday rates for the low, mid and high bands. Excludes breakfast where listed separately, cleaning fees and local tourist tax.

  4. Rail and road accessCaptured 4 February

Ukrzaliznytsia timetables to Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk, plus dry-road drive times from Kyiv and Lviv. Excludes winter closures and the final gravel stretch to Dragobrat.

  5. Alpine resort officesCaptured 30 January

Piste kilometres, lift counts and season windows for the Austrian and Italian bases. Excludes cross-border transfers and local visitor taxes.

  6. Currency conversionCaptured 12 February

NBU mid-market rate used for all EUR and UAH conversions. Rates move daily, so converted figures are desk estimates rather than quoted prices.
