Dated dossiers: snow, terrain, lifts, lodging and access

Every strip below carries resort-reported figures and the date they were checked. Lodging values are nightly rates for a winter high-season double, using the low, mid and high bands defined on this page.

  1. Bukovel

    Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, verified 18 January 2026

    Snow depth
    45–62 cm
    Terrain
    68 km pistes
    Lifts open
    16 of 19
    Lodging
    Mid €70–95
    Access
    8 h drive from Kyiv

The largest lift-served base in the country, with the widest range of pistes for mixed-ability groups and the deepest bed stock. Weekend queues at the lower stations are the main trade-off, so midweek stays price better.

  2. Dragobrat

    Transcarpathia, verified 18 January 2026

    Snow depth
    70–95 cm
    Terrain
    10 km marked
    Lifts open
    4 of 6
    Lodging
    Low €28–40
    Access
    Rail to Ivano-Frankivsk, 3 h transfer

The highest base in the Ukrainian Carpathians and usually the first to hold natural snow. The final stretch of road is unpaved and passable by high-clearance vehicle only, which keeps guesthouse rates in the low band.

  3. Val Thorens

Savoy, France, verified 17 January 2026

    Snow depth
    110–150 cm
    Terrain
    600 km linked
    Lifts open
    28 of 31
    Lodging
    High €180–260
    Access
    Flight plus 2 h 30 transfer

The cost step-up: higher altitude, longer vertical and a linked ski area that no Carpathian base matches. Pass, transfer and equipment costs all sit in the high band, so groups budget roughly two to three times a Ukrainian week.

Lodging price bands

What low, mid and high mean in nightly rates

Three bands, defined once in words and used the same way on every page. Figures are per double room per night for the January to February window, sampled 12 February 2026. Carpathian rates are in hryvnia; the Tyrol row is quoted in euro.

Low band
Hostel bed or village guesthouse, shared or basic private bathroom, 1 km or more from the nearest lift. Breakfast usually extra.
Mid band
3-star double with breakfast, walking distance or a short shuttle to a chairlift. Standard for most week-long bookings.
High band
4-star or better double, lift-side or ski-in position, half board and a spa or pool included in the rate.

Process and disclosure

How the desk verifies, quotes, and books

Four steps, fees written down before you pay, and no resort paid for its place in the matrix. Every figure we publish carries a date and a source.

  1. 01

    Enquiry

You send resort, dates, group size, and lodging band. The desk replies within one working day with availability and what is still open in that window.

  2. 02

    Conditions and access check

We pull resort-reported snow depth range and open lift counts for your dates, each with a verification stamp. Access is quoted as drive time from Kyiv or Lviv with a winter-road caveat, or rail to Ivano-Frankivsk or Lviv plus onward transfer. The final approach to Dragobrat is snow-road only and weather dependent.

  3. 03

    Lodging band and quote

Low: hostel or guesthouse, shared or basic private room, further from the lifts. Mid: 3-star double with breakfast, walkable or shuttle-served. High: 4-star or apartment with ski room and lift-side access. Quotes are shown in UAH, with an EUR equivalent where the supplier bills in euros.

  4. 04

    Confirmation and documents

You receive the supplier contract, cancellation terms, and package travel information before any deposit moves. Deposits and balances go to the supplier, not to the desk.

FAQ

Four questions we answer before you book

Figures last verified 12 February 2026. Sources sit inside each answer. Ask about your dates

Every resort row carries a last-verified timestamp. Depths are resort-reported and read in the morning: on 12 February 2026, Bukovel sat at 45 to 62 cm, Dragobrat at 70 to 95 cm at base, and the Alpine reference resorts above 1,400 m at 80 to 130 cm.

Next step

Compare the shortlist, then send your dates

Open the comparison matrix to read snow, terrain, lifts, lodging bands and access side by side for the resorts you are weighing, each row carrying its own last-verified note. When two or three bases remain on the list, send your dates, group size and preferred transfer through the enquiry form and we reply with a written shortlist and a price band.
